Booked, Paid, and Visible: How Marsha Used LinkedIn to Build a Speaking Career from Scratch

June 18, 20252 min read

You know that feeling when someone tells you to do something… and you don’t… and then they go off and build an entire successful business doing the thing you ignored?

Yeah. That’s what happened with me and Marsha.

Years ago, Marsha said to me, “Tara, get on LinkedIn. It’s not just for resumes anymore.” I nodded. Smiled. Did… nothing.

Now? She’s a fully booked speaker who built her entire thought leadership platform, booked paid gigs with major brands like GoDaddy, and became a recognizable expert without showing up on every social platform or shouting to be seen.

And in true Hey Girl You Can fashion, she breaks it down into real steps that actually work.

Marsha’s 3-Part Framework for LinkedIn That Gets You Hired (Even With a Small Audience)

1. Posting is not a strategy.
You don’t need to post every day to be successful on LinkedIn—but when you do post, it should mean something. Marsha posts 2–3 times a week with value-driven, story-rich content. The goal? Build a reputation, not just visibility.

2. The Three C’s: Content, Comments, Connection
✅ Content: Show up as a thought leader, not just a service provider.
✅ Comments: Write meaningful comments on others' posts—think mini TED Talks, not “great post!”
✅ Connections: DM with intention. Follow up. Build relationships before pitching.

3. Use LinkedIn to send people somewhere.
Marsha doesn’t use LinkedIn just to post—she uses it to grow her email list, promote her newsletter, and book speaking gigs. Her presence turns into business because she’s clear on her purpose.

Why This Works (Even If You Don’t Have 10,000 Followers)

This isn’t about going viral.
It’s about showing up like a pro.
Marsha’s not online every day. She’s not on every app. She doesn’t have a massive following.

But she’s strategic. She’s consistent. She’s building real visibility, not just likes.

If you’ve been sleeping on LinkedIn, this is your wake-up call.
