If You’re Not Showing Up, Your Business Feels Like a Hobby
At one of our recent Hey Girl You Can panels, Jen Bee said something that I totally loved.
A business we don’t talk about is called a hobby.
Yup, that's called dropping a truth bomb.
Because a lot of women are doing all the right things on paper.
They have the offer.
They have the ideas.
They’ve invested time and money into learning.
But they’re not consistently talking about their business.
And that’s the disconnect.
Showing Up Isn’t About Feeling Ready
One of the biggest things she talked about was visibility.
A lot of people are waiting until they feel confident, clear, or ready.
But in reality, confidence usually comes after you start showing up, not before.
There are people watching your content right now — even if they’re not liking, commenting, or saying anything.
They’re paying attention.
And what they’re learning is whether or not they can trust you to show up.
You’re Already Consistent — Just Not With This
This was such a simple point, but it sticks.
You brush your teeth.
You get ready every day.
You show up for other responsibilities.
You already know how to be consistent.
The issue isn’t consistency as a skill — it’s applying it to your business.
Frequency vs Consistency
This is where a lot of people get tripped up.
They think consistency means posting every day.
It doesn’t.
Consistency means choosing something you can actually stick to.
If you’re currently posting once a week (or not at all), jumping to seven days a week isn’t going to last.
Start with something you can follow through on.
Then build from there.
What to Actually Post
She broke this down in a way that makes it easier:
There are three types of posts your business needs:
Engagement — connection, conversation, being human
Education — teaching something useful
Promotion — inviting people to work with you
Most people stay in one or two of these.
But you need all three.
Because if you’re only posting value and never talking about your offer, people don’t know how to take the next step.
Create a Simple Plan That Works for You
Instead of trying to follow someone else’s system, build something that fits your life.
Pick:
How many times a week you’ll show up
What types of posts you’ll rotate through
A structure that feels natural to you
The goal isn’t to do more.
It’s to make it easier to follow through.
What This Comes Down To
There are people who need what you offer.
But they can’t find you if you’re not showing up.
And it doesn’t have to be perfect.
If it’s 60–70% there, post it.
Because this isn’t about getting it exactly right.
It’s about being visible enough for the right people to find you.
